The participants will start at 9.30 am from the Central Square of Martigny towards Emosson dam. The mountain bikers will be following the steps of the famous Mérida Bike, since they will take the well known “Route des Diligences” in between Vernayaz and Salvan after a nice forest start in between Martigny and Vernayaz. Once this first ascent done, they will head towards the small picturesque village of Trétient, then reach Finhaut by the gravel road of Lachat. Timing will start also from the Finhaut train station onwards. Parts from the last section will be undertaken on a closed road accompanied by the participants of the long road race. The last section of the race will cross les Montuires before arriving at the Dam.
The start of the mountain bike race start from the central square of Martigny and the departure will be given 30 minutes after the long road race. This route will take you first through the covered bridge of la Bâtiaz, more than 400 years old, before cycling towards Vernayaz. Once past the “mouth” of the Gorges du Trient, this is where things really get going via the famous climb on the road of the Diligences. You will relive, on this winding track, the Merida Bike, former mythical race organized previously by “Team Vallée du Trient”. From Vernayaz untill Salvan, there are indeed no less than 37 hairpin bends that await you, on 4km and about 550m D+ elevation. You will appreciate the coolness of the river and the beauty of its forest, as well as the surrounding calm. This may be also an opportunity for your family, friends and spectators to observe and support you through the window of the cog railway bringing them to Salvan, les Marécottes, Finhaut or Châtelard Village (Departure of the VerticAlp funicular).
At the exit of the road of the Diligences, you will head towards the village of Salvan, then will link to the village of les Marécottes, great small ski resort in winter, fief of the Falquet brothers and Jérémy Heitz. You will then turn left towards the Zoo des Marécottes passing next to the train station of les Marécottes via Fontany and Bioley. Then, you will be following the road of Ladray. This paved road leads you to the Marécotttes Zoo, the highest Zoo in Europe. From there, you continue towards the small village of Trétien, 3km after Savlan, nested in a little piece of paradise. For this, a slight descent takes you through the “Gorges of Triège” , before taking a sumptuous gravel road (Lachat) at the exit of the village.
On the road of Lachat, made of 14 curves on about 4km and 400m D+, you will be alternately strained and at times via more rolling sections you will be abble to enjoy again the particularly wild and authentic setting by crossing the forest of Lachat. This beautifull road will bring you to the village of Finhaut (1275m). There, you will be starting the final ascent of Col de la Gueulaz to the Dam site of Emosson. The timing starts as the long road race a the train station of Finhaut. The climb towards the Col de la Gueulaz (735m D+) will be close to traffic (8.1km). You will be taking a section of the Col before joining a small path towards the Montuires (intermediate stop of the VerticAlp funicular). Once at the top (1932m), you will discover an exceptional panorama with notably the Grandes Jorasses and Mont Blanc in the background.
